Yum.sg is the definitive, premier online dining guide dedicated to help users seek, discover and enjoy the best dining experiences in Singapore. Yum.sg has been an active portal with a focus on local restaurant searching and user reviews making it easy for any restaurant goers to come to informed decisions on where to go. Being a food haven that Singapore is, it's not surprising to see a proliferating list of food and dining related websites and portals. However, Yum.sg manages to stand out as one of the key leaders in this vertical and is very popular with both locals and foreigners alike.

Objective

Having achieved traction and initial success for the Yum Portal, the founders want to take it to the next level by improving the overall user experience for their users, adding new features for much greater interaction and involving restaurant owners to build a 2-way loop for the content generation process for Yum.sg. Yum.sg seeks to fully revamp the current design taking a major shift from a dark background to a white background yet somehow preserving the dark colour shades for a certain level of classiness. Yum.sg also seeks to further improve the reviewing process by supporting more extensive interactions and allowing more content to be generated by the users. For the restaurant owners, Yum.sg would like to add in advertising features for restaurants to promote their restaurant, events, dishes, etc.

Solution

Techsailor took elaborate steps in the design process to fully evaluate the existing Yum.sg web design and thereafter involved users in a study and survey to understand their preferences. A usability analysis was performed on some of the features to ensure a high level of intuitiveness and user-friendliness. The new design managed to preserve the dark colour shades of the original Yum.sg yet giving a light colour touch in the main content area which was preferred by almost all the users surveyed. Some of the hightlights amongst the new features include a restaurant Wiki system to allow users (and owners) to edit restaurant details collaboratively and an advertising system that allows restaurant owners to advertise and publicize in 5 different ways.
